What to Expect in Your First Kickboxing Class at LSK Martial Arts

Trying something new—especially martial arts—can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. If you’re thinking about attending your first kickboxing class at LSK Martial Arts & Fitness in Kettering, you’re not alone!


We welcome beginners every single week, and we know the first step through the door is often the hardest.


Here’s exactly what you can expect, so you can walk into your first session feeling prepared and confident.


👋 A Friendly Welcome

The first thing you’ll notice at LSK is how friendly and supportive the environment is. Whether you’re 8 or 48, our instructors and members are here to help you feel at home. You’ll be greeted, shown around the gym, and introduced to your coach before class begins.


🥋 What to Wear & Bring

No need to stress over gear! For your first class, just wear:

  • Comfortable gym clothes (t-shirt, leggings or shorts)

  • A water bottle

  • Optional: a towel

If you don’t have gloves yet, we’ve got you covered—loaner gloves are available for beginners.


🔥 The Warm-Up

Every session starts with a dynamic warm-up to get your blood pumping. This could include light jogging, jumping jacks, and mobility drills to prepare your body for training. You’ll go at your own pace, with instructors guiding you every step of the way.


🥊 Basic Technique Training

In your first class, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals:


  • How to stand properly (stance & balance)

  • How to throw basic punches like jabs and crosses

  • Simple kick techniques (nothing fancy—just enough to get started!)


Our coaches break it down clearly and ensure no one gets left behind. You’ll likely partner up to practice, but don’t worry—everyone remembers their first day and will support you.


💦 A Great Workout

Kickboxing is a full-body workout, but you don’t need to be super fit to begin. You’ll build cardio, strength, and coordination over time. Most beginners say they feel energized (and a little sweaty!) after just one class.

Remember: It's okay to take breaks. Everyone starts somewhere.

Every class ends with padwork, you will leave feeling accomplished, possibly a little tired, but definitely proud of yourself for trying something new. And we’re confident you’ll want to come back.
